How to find the cheapest fuel near you
Fuel prices vary surprisingly widely between forecourts only a few miles apart — often by 10p or more per litre, which is several pounds on a single fill-up and hundreds of pounds a year. This finder pulls live prices that UK retailers are now required to publish, so you can see who is cheapest before you drive, rather than discovering it at the pump.
What the fuel types mean
- Unleaded (E10) — the standard petrol at almost every UK forecourt since 2021, containing up to 10% renewable ethanol. Right for the vast majority of modern petrol cars.
- Super unleaded (E5) — a higher-octane premium petrol with up to 5% ethanol, a few pence dearer. Worth it only for certain performance engines or older/classic cars not cleared for E10.
- Diesel (B7) — standard diesel containing up to 7% biodiesel; the normal diesel pump.
- Premium diesel — a more expensive diesel marketed for cleaning and protection; rarely necessary for everyday driving.
Simple ways to spend less on fuel
- Compare before you fill — supermarket forecourts and high-volume sites are often cheapest; motorway services are usually dearest.
- Don't drive far for a saving: chasing a station 8 miles away to save 3p a litre can cost more in fuel than you save.
- Keep tyres correctly inflated and remove roof bars and dead weight — all cut consumption.
- Drive smoothly: gentle acceleration and anticipating traffic can cut real-world fuel use noticeably.
- Supermarket loyalty schemes and fuel-saver vouchers can add a few pence per litre off.

FAQ
How accurate and fresh are the prices?
Prices come directly from retailers' own published feeds, which they update through the day. We refresh frequently, but forecourts can change prices at any time, so always confirm on the pump before filling.
Why isn't every station shown?
Coverage depends on which retailers publish open price data. Major brands — Asda, BP, Esso, Texaco, Shell, JET, Applegreen, Morrisons and motorway services — are well covered; a few independents and some supermarkets are not yet included.
Is E10 safe for my car?
Almost all petrol cars built since 2011 are approved for E10, and most older ones too. A small number of classic or specific engines should use E5 (super unleaded) — check your handbook or the government E10 compatibility checker if unsure.
Prices are sourced from retailers' published open data and shown in good faith, but may be delayed or contain errors. Always confirm the price at the pump. This tool is a free guide, not financial advice.
